Meet the Author
Melody Schmutz, LCSW, is an author, licensed clinical social worker, speaker, and the Owner and Founder of Bloom Anyway LLC. She is passionate about helping people move from overwhelm to hope—one intentional step at a time. Long before she became an author, Melody imagined she might write a book someday—presumably when she was much older, much wiser, and had life a little more figured out. Life, as it often does, had other plans. Her debut book, Managing the Overwhelm: Finding Hope in Times of Stress and Anxiety, grew out of an unexpected and deeply challenging season in her own life. While navigating circumstances that left her feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, and questioning herself, Melody turned to journaling as a way to process what she was experiencing. Those private pages eventually became something more: the beginnings of a book. Drawing from both her personal experience and clinical background, Melody wrote Managing the Overwhelm for anyone who has found themselves carrying too much for too long—whether because of work, relationships, caregiving, change, anxiety, loss, difficult circumstances, or simply the accumulated weight of life. Blending personal story, clinical insight, and practical strategies, she helps readers better understand their stress, quiet self-blame, and begin taking compassionate, manageable steps forward. Her hope is simple: that this book finds its way into the hands of the person who needs it. The person who feels overwhelmed and needs to know that what they are experiencing makes sense, that they are not required to have everything figured out today, and that hope can still take root in difficult seasons. Faith is central to Melody's life and to the story behind this book. Looking back on the experiences that led her to write it, she sees the presence of Jesus throughout the journey—from the painful days of simply trying to make sense of what was happening to the healing that followed. Writing the book has been a humbling experience and an unexpected gift: an opportunity to create something meaningful from a difficult season and, she hopes, use it to help someone else. Professionally, Melody is also the founder of Hope Therapy, where she provides compassionate, evidence-based telehealth psychotherapy for children, teens, adults, and families across Arizona. Her clinical work includes anxiety, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, emotional regulation, and helping people develop practical skills for navigating everyday life. Outside of work and writing, Melody is a wife, mother, military spouse, dog lover, devoted family person, and firm believer that laughter is sometimes exactly what the day requires. Home and family stretch across quite a bit of geography—from Japan to Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Alabama, and wherever the people she loves happen to be. She finds joy in music, books, Japanese ikebana, time with family, and pretty much anything that makes her laugh. The daffodil—the symbol at the heart of Bloom Anyway—captures much of what Melody has learned personally, professionally, and spiritually: growth often begins where no one else can see it. Even after the hardest winters, something beautiful can still emerge. Whether she is writing, speaking, or working with clients, Melody's mission remains the same: to help people discover that they are capable of blooming anyway—no matter the season.
